2022 Highlights

• Continued the build-out and vibrant commercial scaleup of the technology ecosystem in the Bow Valley.

• Established the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, offering professional level "Protecting the Enterprise" Cybersecurity training programs.

• Partnered with the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business, the Business Council of Alberta and the Business Council of Canada to host the inaugural Global Business Futures Summit for North American Corporate CEO's at SilverTip Resort in Canmore.

• Continued the collaboration with the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business to deliver the annual "Entrepreneurship Thinking in Action" Summer Camp for Bow Valley students Grades 9-12.

• Partnered with Cybera's Applied Data Science Lab to deliver the "How to begin your Machine Learning & Data Science Journey" Workshop to Canmore tech and non-tech businesses.

• Team members attended a number of tech conferences domestically and internationally, including the UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt, the International Desalination Association World Congress in Australia, the Cyber Summit, Inventures2022 and the Banff Venture Forum.

• Continued to engage and attract new technology companies and talent to Canmore.

The Hackathon Series - New for 2023!

Save the Date for the first program!

Innovate Canmore and Callysto are hosting a series of in-person Hackathons in Canmore during 2023.

The programs will teach students in-demand digital workforce skills such as coding, computational thinking and data analysis using open source datasets to solve various data science challenges, including controlling a virtual robot, assembling the best Pokemon team and deciding which pets would make the best companions on planet Mars.

To solve these challenges, they will run data analytics using Python code on Callysto Hub, a browser-based platform that allows students to import, study and visualize relevant datasets.

When: Saturday, March 4th

Time: 9:00am to 2:00pm, MST
Who: Grades 5-12 students for this Hackathon
Delivered by: Data Scientists and Education specialists from Callysto and Innovate Canmore

"Protecting the Enterprise"
Cyber Security Programs

Starting in March, Innovate Canmore will be offering a broad range of professional level, live online Cyber Security training and re-skilling programs to individuals (beginners & professionals), corporations and academic institutions.

Delivered by first class, experienced instructors utilizing a Labs and Simulation platform model and offering both Internal Certification and an option to prepare for International Certification. The programs will include "Introduction to Cyber Security & Awareness", "Cyber Protection for Organizations" and "Cyber Security and Incident Response".

Our first Program, "Introduction to Cybersecurity and Awareness" to be offered live, online in early March.

AMII’s Virtual AI Meetup

Learn about the latest tools and techniques in machine learning, and explore topics that researchers and industry professionals are thinking about or working on.

This month's meetup is a panel discussion on the topic of tackling healthcare projects using federated learning. Moderated by Payam Mousavi, Amii's Applied Research Scientist, the panel features three Amii co-authors of Federated learning enables big data for rare cancer boundary detection, a paper recently published in Nature.

This special panel session will cover the purpose, benefits and drawbacks of federated learning in a healthcare setting.

Welcome to Josh Fuerbringer, Entrepreneurship Intern & Research Associate

Josh is currently a 4th year B. Comm Finance Major at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. Additionally, he is the Head Teaching Assistant for several Entreprenurial Thinking courses and actively participates in student leadership roles in numerous other programs within the Haskayne Centers at the University.

Prior to joining Innovate Canmore, and in addition to his academic studies, Josh has worked as a Market Analyst for Inter Pipeline Ltd where he worked on a $2 billion infrastructure deal, researched Indigenous business interests in Alberta, and furthered the development of the company's new carbon capture project, the Bow Valley Carbon Hub.

He is also Co-Founder of Bio-Box, an eco-friendly Award Winning packaging start-up dedicated to finding new ways to foster sustainability in the hospitality sector.
